Corridor Structure
Two Separate Corridors:
- East Corridor: This connects India to the Arabian Gulf. It will serve as a vital trade and transit route linking South Asia to the Middle Eastern economies.
- North Corridor: This corridor extends from the Gulf to Europe, enabling goods, services, and people to move efficiently between the Middle East and the European continent.
Transit Network
- The core of IMEC’s transit network will involve railway infrastructure facilitating cross-border transit.
- The railway network aims to streamline cargo movement, reduce transportation time, and enhance overall trade efficiency by providing an alternative to traditional maritime routes.
Supplementary Routes
To complement the railway system, maritime and road transport routes will be developed.
This multimodal approach ensures flexibility, resilience, and redundancy in the logistics chain, allowing cargo to move seamlessly across different modes of transport based on needs and circumstances.
Infrastructure Development
Beyond just transport, the corridor will also develop supporting infrastructure in sectors such as:
Electricity: Ensuring energy availability across the corridor.
Digital Infrastructure: Supporting smart logistics, real-time tracking, and seamless communication.
Hydrogen: Promoting clean energy transportation and possibly establishing hydrogen supply chains.
