The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) was officially announced on September 9, 2023, during the G20 Summit in New Delhi. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by India, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the European Union (EU), France, Germany, Italy, and the United States. This initiative aims to enhance economic integration and connectivity between Asia, the Middle East, and Europe .

1. Framework Agreement with UAE
India and the UAE signed an Intergovernmental Framework Agreement (IGFA) to cooperate on the operation of the IMEC. The agreement focuses on the development and management of a logistics platform, including a digital ecosystem, and the provision of supply chain services to handle various types of cargo .

Construction Kickoff
Construction of key infrastructure components such as new rail lines, ports, and highways officially began in April 2025, marking a significant step forward in the realization of the IMEC.
